PULLEYS OR BLOCKS. A movable pulley reduces the necessary amount of power, in the proportion of 2 to 1 for every wheel in the pulley; thus, a movable pulley with 1 wheel will reduce the power one-half, 2 wheels to one-fourth, 3 wheels to one-sixth, etc.
