in street railway operations in Philadelphia since 1860,
and, since 1886, in Chicago, where he is at the head of
several suburban and elevated railway corporations.
Is also engaged in the construction and development
of the underground electric railway system in London,
England. Gave to the University of Chicago a tele-
scope regarded as the largest and finest in the world,
located in the Yerkes Observatory at Geneva, Ill.

YETMAN, HUBBARD R. - Superintendent, Sta-
pleton, S. I. Born in Monmouth County, N. J., 1847.
Educated at Freehold High School. Enlisted in the
14th Regiment, New York Volunteers, as a drummer
boy, at the outbreak of the Civil War. Served
throughout the war, and was in a number of severe
engagements. Taught school in Tottenville, S. I., for
fifteen years, and was for several years a justice of
the peace in that section. Assemblyman, 1889-93. Now
superintendent of schools for the Borough of Rich-
mond of the City of New York.
