PREPARE, O my soul, to celebrate worthily the great feast of the Body and Blood of JESUS Christ, so fitted to revive in you sentiments of faith, of religion, and of love: apply yourself, during this holy Octave, to repair, by adorations frequent, and full of reverence and fervour, the sloth, the irreverences and the dissipations of which you have been guilty during the year towards the Divine Eucharist, either when you have assisted at the sacrifice on our altars, where that unbloody Victim was being

immolated for love of us; or when you have come to adore Him with the people at the high solemnities, while He was exposed to your eyes; or when you have received Him in the Communion.

Retire, during this octave, from worldly companies, in which they do not speak of God. Be solitary with the solitary JESUS; keep silence exterior and interior, if you would have JESUS, exposed on our altars, speak to your heart; fix your abode during this holy time, as much as you can, at the foot of the altars on which JESUS Christ resides; and all the time that you shall be there, say to yourself: "My Saviour and my God is exposed at this moment in the Sanctuary, where He waits for me, and where He calls me, in order to receive the homages and the adorations which I owe to Him, in order to load me with His graces, in order to inflame me with His love."

Lose none of the graces attached to this great Sacrament; receive with a holy avidity all the blessings which flow unceasingly from the Body, from the Blood, from the Spirit, from the Heart, from the Soul, and from the Divinity of JESUS Christ, while He is exposed; and be persuaded

that this adorable Saviour may have attached your entire conversion to one of the visits which you pay Him at this holy time.

Observe that JESUS Christ, Who is the true Sun of Justice, is about to appear exposed before your eyes; go seek His divine rays: it is a God Who is about to reside on His altars; go to adore Him: it is a Saviour Who is about to renew the sacrifice of your redemption; go to respond to His goodness: it is your Sovereign, Who is about to appear on His throne of grace; go every day to pay your court to Him: it is a Spouse Who is about to contract with you a glorious alliance; go to show Him your eagerness: it is a Friend Who is about to give you a thousand testimonies of His love; go to show Him yours, and to open your heart to Him: it is a Victim Who is immolated every day for your sake; go to make yourself a victim with Him: it is a divine Solitary Who wills to be all alone with you, because He loves you; go to consecrate your solitude to Him, and to profit by His.

Prepare yourself to receive the light and the heat of this Sun of Justice; He is about to issue from the cloud which hides

Him, that is to say, from the tabernacle where He is enclosed, in order to shine upon our altars. Do it in such wise that, when He shall descend upon this altar in order to come to be shut up in the taber nacle and living sanctuary of your heart through the holy Communion, He may convey faith to it, and may shed upon it new lights and new flames.

Prepare yourself to come every day to prostrate yourself at the foot of the altars, in order to adore JESUS Christ, and recollect that He requires altars and adorers who adore Him in spirit and in truth, be cause He is a God, and a God all-powerful, though His divinity be concealed.

Prepare yourself to come to show your gratitude to this divine Saviour Who has broken your chains, Who has redeemed you from death by His own; and to come to acknowledge and to adore upon this altar that very Blood which was shed, and that very Flesh which was torn for love of you, and both of which are the instruments of your redemption.

Prepare yourself to pay court assiduously to this august Sovereign, Who is yours, and do Him your homage on the throne on which He is about to be placed,

and recollect that He must have a throne and homages which spring from the heart, because He is the King of kings, and the King of men's hearts.

Prepare yourself to appear at the nuptial feast of that celestial Spouse, Who is also yours; go thither with all the ardour and all the eagerness of which you are capable, since He invites you thereto, and has prepared Himself for you; but appear not there without having the nuptial robe, and enter not the church, which is the hall of the feast, without saying to Him with as much truth as the prophet: "My heart is prepared, Lord, yea, my heart is prepared." (Ps. lvi.)

Dispose yourself to go to pay to this illustrious Friend, Whose friendship does you so much honour, frequent visits, with an entire confidence, a perfect openness of heart; discover to Him confidently all your miseries and all your wants; follow His advice in everything, since He is the most enlightened, the most wise, the most tender, the most faithful, the most constant, the most perfect, and consequently the most amiable of all friends.

Prepare yourself to go every day to take part in the sacrifice of this Victim; you
