PSALM LIV.

1.

PRAISE ye the Lord, 'tis good to raise
Our hearts and voices in his praise;
His nature and His works unite
To make this duty our delight.

2.

Great is the Lord, and great His might— Kindare His ways-His judgments right; He loves the meek, rewards the just, And lifts the humble from the dust.

PSALM LV.

1.

THY kingdom, Lord, for ever stands, While earthly thrones decay;

And time submits to thy commands,

While

ages roll

away.

2.

Thy sov'reign bounty freely gives
Its unexhausted store;
And universal nature lives
On thy sustaining pow'r.

3.

Holy and just are all thy ways—
Thy goodness all divine;

In all thy works immortal rays
Of pow'r and mercy shine!

4.

Thy praise, oh God, the noblest theme,

Shall fill my heart and tongue ;

Let all creation bless thy name

In one eternal song.

PSALM LVI.

1.

ETERNAL Source of every joy,
Well may thy praise our lips employ,
While in thy temple we appear,

Whose goodness crowns the circling year.

2.

From Thee all creatures seek supply, To Thee they lift the imploring eye; Receiving from thy bounteous hand Whate'er their various wants demand.

3.

Wide as the wheels of nature roll,
Thy hand supports and cheers the whole;
By Thee the sun is taught to rise,
And darkness when to veil the skies.

(PART SECOND.)

Seasons and months, and weeks and days
Demand successive hymns of praise;
Still be the cheerful homage paid,
With morning light and evening shade.

4.

Oh may our more harmonious tongues
Hereafter join in nobler songs;
And through eternal years adore
The God of love, the God of pow'r.

PSALM LVII.

(PART FIRST.)

༣.

GREAT God, we in thy courts appear,
Whose blessings crown the opening year;
Our feeble lives thy care prolongs,
And wakes anew our annual songs.

2.

What numbers, in the little space, Have vacant left on earth their place, Since from this day the circling sun Hath his last yearly period run.

3.

We still survive, but who shall say
Or through a year, a month, a day,
Secure from the approach of death,
He shall retain his vital breath?.
