THE MORNING HYMN.

1.

AWAKE, my soul, and with the sun
Thy daily course of duty run;
Shake off dull sloth and early rise
To pay thy morning sacrifice.

2.

Redeem thy mis-spent moments past,
And live this day as if thy last

t;

The talents giv'n thee use with care,
And for the great account prepare.

3.

Let all thy converse be sincere-
Thy conscience as the noon-day clear-
For God's all-seeing eye surveys

Thy secret thoughts, thy works, thy ways.

THE MORNING HYMN.

(PART SECOND.)

1.

GLORY to Thee, who safe hast, kept, And hast refresh'd me while I slept ; Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake, I may of endless life partake.

Lord, I

2.

my vows to Thee renew,

Scatter my sins like morning dew;

Guard the first spring of thought and will, And with thyself my spirit fill,

3.

Direct, control, suggest this day

All I design, or do, or say;

That all my pow'rs, with all their might, In thy sole glory may unite.

PSALMS.

PSALM I.

(PART FIRST.)

1.

BLEST is the man, whose righteous ways
Tend to exalt Jehovah's praise;
Who, like the tree of goodly root,
In season yields abundant fruit.

2.

But like the bare and leafless tree
Shall ever the ungodly be;
For round the sinner's secret path
Is scatter'd the Almighty's wrath.

(PART SECOND.)

3.

In vain the oppressor lifts the chainHis threats are weak-his bonds are vain ; God, great in pow'r, in mercy mild, Protects from wrong his suppliant child.

4.

In vengeance should Jehovah rise,
What shall avail the sinner's cries?
What can the sinner's refuge prove
But the Redeemer's boundless love?

PSALM II.

(PART FIRST.)

1.

WHY did the Gentiles rage,
And Jews with one accord,
Bend all their counsels to destroy
The anointed of the Lord?

2.

Rulers and kings agree

To form a vain design;

Against the Lord their powers uniteAgainst his Christ they join.

3.

The Lord derides their rage,

And will support his throne;

He, that hath rais'd him from the dead, Hath own'd him for his Son!
