Clause 8, further considered.

An Amendment proposed, in page 9, line 38, to leave ont sub-section (1)-(Lieut.-Colonel Watts-Morgan).—Question put, "That the words proposed to be left out down to the word 'five' in page 10, line 1, stand part of the Clause."-The Committee divided :

Another Amendment proposed, in page 10, line 1, to leave out the word "five," in order to insert the word forty-eight "(Mr. Dennison),-instead thereof.-Question proposed, "That the word 'five' stand part of the Clause."

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 10, line 24, at the end, to insert the words "the appropriation between principal and interest being made in accordance with the provisions of this Act where the interest is not expressed by the contract for the loan in terms of a rate "-(Captain King).—Question, "That those words be there inserted," -put, and agreed to.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 10, after the last inserted Amendment, to insert the words "and

(c) where the amount of interest included in the

unpaid balance represents a rate per cent. per

annum exceeding five per cent., the amount of interest which would be so included if it were calculated at the rate of five per cent. per annum "-(Captain King).
