HOUSE OF LORDS.

Die Mercurii, 16° Martii.

Order of Wednesday the 2nd instant referring the Bill to a Select Committee discharged: Then it was moved, That it is desirable that the Bill be referred to a Joint Committee of both Houses of Parliament (The Lord Gorell); agreed to: Ordered, that a Message be sent to the Commons to communicate this resolution, and to desire their concurrence.

Die Martis, 22° Martii, 1927.

Message from the Commons that they concur in the resolution of this House communicated to them on Wednesday last, viz. : That it is desirable that the Bill be referred to a Joint Committee of both Houses of Parliament.

Die Jovis, 31° Martii, 1927.

Moved, That a Committee of five Lords be appointed to join with a Committee of the House of Commons to consider the said Bill (The Lord Gorell), agreed to:

The Lords following were named of the Committee

V. Burnham,

L. Stanley of Alderley (L. Sheffield),

L. Gorell,

L. Warrington of Clyffe;

Ordered, that such Committee have power to agree with the Committee of the House of Commons in the appointment of a Chairman That a message was ordered to be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint them therewith, and to request them to appoint Five Members of that House to be joined with the said Committee.

Die Martis, 15° Novembris, 1927.

A Message ordered to be sent to the Commons to propose that the Joint Committee do meet in Committee Room C. on Wednesday, the 23rd of November, at half-past Eleven o'clock.

Die Martis, 22° Novembris.

Message from the Commons that they have ordered that the Committee appointed by them to join with the Committee of this House, to consider the Bill, do meet the Lord's Committee in Committee Room C., To-morrow, at half-past Eleven o'clock, as proposed by their Lordships.

Die Martis, 290 Novembris.

The evidence taken before the Joint Committee from time to time to be printed, but no copies to be delivered except to Members of the Committee and to such other persons as the Committee shall think fit, until further order.

Die Mercurii, 14° Decembris.

Report from the Joint Committee (with the Proceedings of the Committee) made and to be printed. Minutes of Evidence laid upon the Table and to be delivered out. Bill reported without amendment and re-committed to a Committee of the Whole House.

HOUSE OF COMMONS.

[Wednesday, 16th March]:-Message from The Lords,That they communicate that they have come to the following Resolution, viz. That it is desirable that the Law of Libel Amendment Bill [Lords] be referred to a Joint Committee of both Houses of Parliament.

[Friday, 18th March]: Ordered, That the Lords Message [15th March] communicating the Resolution, "That it is desirable that the Law of Libel (Amendment) Bill [Lords] be referred to a Joint Committee of both Houses of Parliament," be now considered.-(Colonel Gibbs.)

Lords Message considered accordingly.

Resolved, That this House doth concur with the Lords in the said Resolution.--(Colonel Gibbs.)

Message to the Lords to acquaint them therewith.

[Friday, 1st April]: Message from The Lords,―That they have appointed a Committee consisting of five Lords to join with a Committee of the Commons to consider the Law of Libel

Amendment Bill [Lords], and request the Commons to appoint an equal number of their Members to be joined with the said Lords.

[Monday, 23rd May]: Motion made, and Question proposed, That the Lords Message [1st April] relating to the appointment of a Joint Committee to consider the Law of Libel Amendment Bill [Lords] be now considered."-(Colonel Gibbs.)— Debate arising;
