HEAD under which this Vote will be accounted for by the MINES DEPARTMENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE. 1926. PURCHASE AND IMPORTATION OF COAL ... £ 3,000,000 Provision is made for the purchase and importation of Coal (including freight and demurrage etc.) on Government account for use in the maintenance of supplies to public utility, food-producing and other essential undertakings and to domestic consumers. For so long as the stoppage continues, the coal will be sold at a price estimated to cover the total cost, and receipts will be used to make further purchases. The amount voted will thus be used (a) to finance the original purchases until receipts begin to come in and (b) to cover any loss which may be incurred on the liquidation of stocks not resold when the stoppage in the Industry comes to an end. The transactions will be included in a Trading Account in accordance with the provisions of Section 5 of the Exchequer and Audit Departments Act, 1921 A sum of 100,000l. has been advanced from the Civil Contingencies Fund and a corresponding amount of the Vote is required to make repayment to that Fuad.
