The total approved estimated expenditure of the Police Authorities in respect of which grant is payable in the year ending 31 March, 1926 has proved larger than was anticipated, and has been further increased by the discontinuance, since the 1 August, 1925, of the deductions from the rent allowances paid to the police, in accordance with the terms of the Report of the Committee on Temporary Deductions from Police Pay (Cmd. 2444). The additional grants payable in the current year on the latter account are estimated to amount to £16,000.

Recoveries of grant, by way of adjustment, are made where
the instalments provisionally paid to Local Education
Authorities are found on examination of the accounts
to have been excessive. It is anticipated that an
exceptionally large number of grants for previous years,
hitherto outstanding, will be finally adjusted during the
current year and that, in consequence, the amount
recoverable will be larger than was expected...

Further provision for the refund of Contributions paid by
Teachers under the Education (Scotland) (Superannua-
tion) Acts, 1922 to 1925. Refunds are made in accordance
with Section 2 of the Act of 1922 and Article 22 of the
Amendment (1923) of the Superannuation Scheme for
Teachers (Scotland). The additional sum is required to
meet claims from Teachers who withdraw from service on
marriage, the number of teachers so withdrawing being in
excess of the number for which provision was made in the
original Estimate on the basis of the records of previous
years

NOTE. In accordance with the provisions of the National Library of Scotland Act, 1925, the Advocates Library, subject to certain exceptions specified in the Act, was transferred to the control of the Board of Trustees, appointed under the Act, as from the 26th October, 1926 (the Appointed Day under the Act), and provision is accordingly made, pursuant to Section 10 of the Act, for the expenses of the Library from that date.
