1 PRAISE ye the Lord-let praise employ, In his own courts, your songs of joy; The spacious firmament around Shall echo back the joyful sound. 2 Recount his works in strains divine, His wondrous works-how bright they shine!

Praise him for all his mighty deeds, Whose greatness all your praise exceeds. 3 Let all, whom life and breath inspire, Attend, and join the blissful choir; But chiefly ye, who know his word, Adore, and love, and praise the Lord!⚫ 106.

Psalm 103.

1 BLESS, O my soul, the living God,
Call home thy thoughts that rove abroad:
Let all the powers within me join
In work and worship so divine.
2 Bless, O my soul, the God of grace;
His favors claim thy highest praise:
Why should the wonders he hath wrought
Be lost in silence and forgot?

3 'Tis he, my soul, that sent his Son
To die for crimes which thou hast done;
He owns the ransom, and forgives
The hourly follies of our lives.

4 Let every land his power confess;
Let all the earth adore his grace:
My heart and tongue with rapture join,
In work and worship so divine.

107.

Rev. 19: 6.

1 THE Lord is King! lift up thy voice,
O carth, and all ye heavens, rejoice!
From world to world the joy shall ring.
The Lord omnipotent is King!

2 The Lord is King! who then shall dare
Resist his will, distrust his care?
Holy and true are all his ways:
Let every creature speak his praise.
3 The Lord is King! exalt your strains,
Ye saints, your God, your Father reigns
One Lord, one empire, all secures :
He reigns, and life and death are yours.
4 Oh, when his wisdom can mistake,
His might decay, his love forsake,
Then may his children cease to sing,-
The Lord omnipotent is King!
108.

1 AWAKE, my tongue, thy tribute bring
To Him who gave thee power to sing:
Praise him, who is all praise above,
The source of wisdom and of love.

2 Through each bright world above, behold
Ten thousand thousand charms unfold;
Earth, air, and mighty seas combine,
To speak his wisdom all divine.

3 But in redemption, oh, what grace!
Its wonders, oh, what thought can trace
Here wisdom shines forever bright:
Praise him, my soul, with sweet delight

1 THE Lord of glory is my light,
And my salvation, too;

God is my strength,-nor will I fear
What all my foes can do.

2. One privilege my heart desires,

Oh! grant me an abode,
Among the churches of thy saints,
The temples of my God.

3 There shall I offer my requests,
And see thy beauty still;
Shal! hear thy messages of love,
And there inquire thy will.

4 When troubles rise, and storms appear,
There may his children hide;
God has a strong pavilion, where
He makes my soul abide.

5 Now shall my head be lifted high
Above my foes around;
And songs of joy and victory
Within thy temple sound.

[blocks in formation]

3 Lift up to God the voice of praise,
From whom salvation flows,
Who sent his Son our souls to save
From everlasting woes.

4 Lift up to God the voice of praise,
For hope's transporting ray,

Which lights, through darkest shades of death,

[blocks in formation]

1 THE Lord's my shepherd, I'll not want: He makes me down to lie

In pastures green; he leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

2 My soul he doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Ev'n for his own name's sake.

3 Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill;

For thou art with me, and thy rod
And staff me comfort still.

4 My table thou hast furnishéd
In presence of my foes;
My head thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.

1 SING we the song of those who stand
Around the eternal throne,

Of every kindred, clime, and land,
A multitude unknown.

2 Life's poor distinctions vanish here;
To-day the young, the old,
Our Saviour and his flock appear
One Shepherd and one fold.
3 Toil, trial, suffering, still await

On earth the pilgrims' throng;
Yet learn we in our low estate

The Church Triumphant's song. 4" Worthy the Lamb for sinners slain,-" Cry the redeemed above,

"Blessing and honor to obtain,

And everlasting love!"

5" Worthy the Lamb," on earth we sing, "Who died our souls to save! Henceforth, O Death! where is thy sting? Thy victory, O Grave!"

[blocks in formation]

3 Shout to Jehovah, surging main!
In deep eternal roar;

Let wave to wave resound the strain,
And shore reply to shore.

4 Storm, lightning, thunder, hail, and snow,
Wild winds that keep his word,
With the old mountains far below,
Unite to bless the Lord.

5 And round the wide world let it roll,
Whilst man shall lead it on;
Join. every ransomed human soul,
In glorious unison.

114.

1 COME, shout aloud the Father's grace,
And sing the Saviour's love;
Soon shall we join the glorious theme,
In loftier strains above.

2 God, the eternal, mighty God,
To dearer names descends ;
Calls us his treasure and his joy,
His children and his friends.

3 My Father, God! and may these lips
Pronounce a name so dear?
Not thus could heaven's sweet harmony
Delight my listening ear.

4 Thanks to my God for every gift
His bounteous hands bestow;
And thanks eternal for that love
Whence all those comforts flow.

For of gods he is the God Who by wis-dom did create Heaven's expanse and all its state;—

[blocks in formation]

1 LET us with a joyful mind
Praise the Lord, for he is kind,
For his mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.
Let us sound his name abroad,
For of gods he is the God
Who by wisdom did create

Heaven's expanse and all its state;—

2 Did the solid earth ordain

How to rise above the main; Who, by his commanding might, Filled the new-made world with light: Caused the golden-tresséd sun All the day his course to run; And the moon to shine by night, 'Mid her spangled sisters bright. 3 All his creatures God doth feed, His full hand supplies their need; Let us, therefore, warble forth His high majesty and worth. He his mansion hath on high, 'Bove the reach of mortal eye; And his mercies shall endure, Ever faithful, ever sure.

[blocks in formation]

1 HOLY, holy, holy Lord

God of Hosts! when heaven and earth, Out of darkness, at thy word

Issued into glorious birth,

All thy works before thee stood,
And thine eye beheld them good,
While they sung with sweet accord,
Holy, holy, holy Lord!

2 Holy, holy, holy! thee,

One Jehovah evermore, Father, Son, and Spirit! we,

Dust and ashes, would adore: Lightly by the world esteemed, From that world by thee redeemed, Sing we here with glad accord, Holy, holy, holy Lord!

3 Holy, holy, holy! all

Heaven's triumphant choir shall sing, While the ransomed nations fall

At the footstool of their King:
Then shall saints and seraphim,
Harps and voices, swell one hymn,
Blending in sublime accord,
Holy, holy, holy Lord!

Psalm 73: 25.

1 LORD of earth! thy forming hand
Well this beauteous frame hath planned;
Woods that wave, and hills that tower,
Ocean rolling in his power:
Yet, amid this scene so fair,
Should I cease thy smile to share,
What were all its joys to me?
Whom have I on earth but thee?

2 Lord of heaven! beyond our sight
Shines a world of purer light;
There in love's unclouded reign
Parted hands shall meet again:
Oh, that world is passing fair!
Yet, if thou wert absent there,
What were all its joys to me?
Whom have I in heaven but thee?

3 Lord of earth and heaven! my breast
Seeks in thee its only rest:
I was lost; thy accents mild
Homeward lured thy wandering child:-

on earth but thee}

Oh! should once thy smile divine

Cease upon my soul to shine,

What were earth or heaven to me? Whom have I in cach but thee? 118.

1 PRAISE to God, immortal praise,
For the love that crowns our days;
Bounteous source of every joy!
Let thy praise our tongues employ.
2 Flocks that whiten all the plain,
Yellow sheaves of ripened grain:
Clouds that drop their fattening dews,
Suns that temperate warmth diffuse:-
3 All that spring with bounteous hand
Scatters o'er the smiling land;
All that liberal autumn pours
From her rich o'erflowing stores; -
4 Lord, for these our souls shall raise
Grateful vows, and solemn praise:
And when every blessing 's flown,
Love thee for thyself alone.
