Notes.-The above figures were obtained from monthly returns which showed the cost per week and the numbers chargeable on the 15th of the month. 34 of the above Parishes have been selected as having the highest average rate of able-bodied pauperism during the year. Dundee and Aberdeen Parishes were added in view of their importance. The number of destitute able-bodied unemployed relieved by the 36 Parishes on 15th May represented 71 per cent. of the total number of such cases relieved in Scotland. No. of Parish. XVII. BODIED UNEMPLOYED. unemployed and of other poor relieved on 15th May, and calendar year 1926; relieved during the calendar year 1926; and bodied during the calendar year 1926, and rate per £ of "Number of poor" as used here includes paupers and dependants, but excludes lunatics, mental defectives, cases in receipt of outdoor medical relief only, and vagrants. For the year ended 15th May 1926 the expenditure in Scotland on relief of the able-bodied was :-Outdoor £961,827, Indoor £19,671, Administration £42,418, and Interest on Loans and Overdraft £104,363. In addition £651 of expenditure on additions and improvements, representing an average weekly cost per inmate of 38, 94d., was met from sums received from Military Authorities as compensation in connection with the military occupation of Dundee East Poorhouse.
