XVIII. BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, prohibiting the Export of Sulphate of Potash and Muriate of Potash (Chloride of Potassium).—August 7, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 7th day of August, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council, having taken into consideration the expediency of prohibiting the exportation of certain additional articles capable of being converted into or made useful in increasing the quantity of military and naval stores (in pursuance of Her Majesty's Proclamation of the 18th February, 1854),* are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do hereafter prevent the exportation of sulphate of potash and muriate of potash (chloride of potassium) to any place in Europe north of Dunkirk, or to any place in the Mediterranean Sea east of Malta, and that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do permit the export of the articles herein mentioned to any other part of the world upon taking from the persons exporting the same a bond that they shall be landed and entered at the port of destination.

Whereof the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury and the Commissioners of Customs, and all other persons whom it may concern, are to take notice and govern themselves accordingly. C. C. GREVILLE.

XIX.-BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, to prohibit the Exportation of certain additional Articles.-August 7, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 7th day of August, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council, having taken into consideration the expediency of prohibiting the exportation of certain additional articles capable of being converted into or made useful in increasing the quantity of military and naval stores (in pursuance of Her Majesty's Proclamation of the 18th February, 1854), are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do hereby prevent the exportation of the following articles: viz., rivet iron, angle iron, round bars, rivets, strips of iron, sheet plate iron, and Low Moor plates, to any place in Europe north of Dunkirk, or to any place in the Mediterranean sea east of Malta, and that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do permit the export of the articles herein mentioned to any other part of the world upon

taking from the persons exporting the same a bond that they shall be landed and entered at the port of destination:

Whereof the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury and the Commissioners of Customs and all other persons whom it may concern, are to take notice and govern themselves accordingly.

XX. BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, rescinding the Orders prohibiting the Exportation of certain Articles East of Malta.-August 28, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 28th day of August, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council having taken into consideration certain applications for leave to export various articles, of which the exportation is prohibited, to any place in Europe north of Dunkirk, or in the Mediterranean Sea east of Malta, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the prohibition to export such articles to any place east of Malta shall cease, with the exception of gunpowder, saltpetre, brimstone, nitrate of soda, sulphate of potash, muriate of potash (chloride of potassium), arms and ammunition of every kind, including lead, with regard to which the prohibition is to remain in force.

Whereof the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, and the Commissioners of Customs, and all other persons whom it may concern, are to take notice, and govern themselves accordingly. C. C. GREVILLE.

XXI.—BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, authorizing an Alteration in the Order of August 7, 1855, which prohibited the export of certain Articles.-August 30, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 30th day of August, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the Lords of the Council were pleased by their Order in Council of the 7th instant* to prohibit the exportation of sundry articles of iron: And whereas their Lordships have reconsidered the said Order as far as regards the prohibition of the export of round and plate iron, and are hereby pleased to order that after the words "round bars" contained in the said Order the words "of from to of an inch diameter," and that after the words "sheet

plate iron," the words "exceeding of an inch," and that instead of the words "Low Moor plates" only the words "Low Moor and bowling plates" be inserted:

Whereof the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury and the Commissioners of the Customs, and all other persons whom it may concern, are to take notice and govern themselves accordingly.

XXII.-BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, amending the Order of August 7, 1855,* respecting the prohibition of the Export of certain Articles.—August 30, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 30th day of August, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council, having taken into consideration the expediency of prohibiting the exportation of certain additional articles capable of being converted into or made useful in increasing the quantity of military and naval stores (in pursuance of Her Majesty's Proclamation of the 18th February, 1854),† are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do hereafter prevent the exportation of the following articles: viz., rivet iron, angle iron, rivets, strips of iron, Low Moor and bowling plates, sheet plate iron exceeding of an inch, and round bars of from to of an inch diameter, to any place in Europe north of Dunkirk; and that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do permit the export of the articles herein mentioned to any other part of the world upon taking from the persons exporting the same a bond that they shall be landed and entered at the port of destination:

XXIII.-BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, rescinding

the Order of August 28, 1855, respecting the prohibition of the Export of certain Articles East of Malta-September 20, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 20th day of September, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL. THE Lords of the Council, having taken into consideration certain applications for leave to export various articles, of which the * Page 54. + Page 31

exportation is prohibited, to any place in Europe north of Dunkirk, or in the Mediterranean sea east of Malta, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the prohibition to export such articles to any place east of Malta shall cease, with the exception of gunpowder, saltpetre, brimstone, sulphate of potash, muriate of potash (chloride of potassium), and arms and ammunition of every kind, with regard to which the prohibition is to remain in force; and their Lordships are hereby pleased to direct that this Order be substituted for their Lordships' Order of the 28th August last, which is hereby rescinded.

Whereof the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, and the Commissioners of Customs, and all other persons whom it may concern, are to take notice, and govern themselves accordingly. C. C. GREVILLE.

XXIV. BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, prohibiting the Export of Chlorate of Potass to any Place in Europe North of Dunkirk, or in the Mediterranean Sea East of Malta.September 20, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 20th day of September, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council, having taken into consideration the expediency of prohibiting the export of chlorate of potass as an article used in the manufacture of military and naval stores, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do prevent the exportation of chlorate of potass to any place in Europe north of Dunkirk, or in the Mediterranean Sea east of Malta; and that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do permit the export of the said article to any other part of the World, upon taking from the persons exporting the same a bond that it shall be landed and entered for consumption or use at the port of destination:

XXV.-BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, prohibiting the Export of Saltpetre, Nitrate of Soda, &c. to all Foreign Countries except British Possessions.—November 1, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 1st day of November, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council, having taken into consideration the expediency of extending the prohibition to export from the United Kingdon certain articles used in the manufacture of military and naval stores, in pursuance of Her Majesty's Proclamation of the 18th February, 1854,* are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do prevent the exportation of saltpetre, nitrate of soda, sulphate of potash, muriate of potash (chloride of potassium), and chlorate of potash, to all foreign countries; and that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do permit the articles herein mentioned to be carried coastwise to any port in the United Kingdom, or to be exported to any of Her Majesty's colonies, plantations, or possessions abroad, or to the territories of the East India Company, upon taking from the persons exporting the same a bond that the said article shall be landed and entered for use and consumption within such of Her Majesty's dominions or within the territories of the East India Company.

Whereof the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, and officers of Her Majesty's Customs, and all other persons whom it may concern, are to take notice, and govern themselves accordingly.

XXVI.-BRITISH ORDER of the Lords of the Council, prohibiting

the Export of Nitrate of Soda, &c. to Her Majesty's Colonies and Plantations in North America, including the West Indian Islands. -December 27, 1855.

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 27th day of December, 1855. BY THE LORDS OF HER MAJESTY'S MOST HONOURABLE PRIVY COUNCIL.

THE Lords of the Council having taken into consideration the expediency of extending the prohibition to export from The United Kingdom certain articles used in the manufacture of military and naval stores, in pursuance of Her Majesty's Proclamation of the 18th February, 1854,* are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the officers of Her Majesty's Customs do prevent the exportation of
