Surveys the history of Jews in Castrop, Westphalia, from the beginning of their settlement there in the 18th century until 1942. Mentions remarkable antisemitic influences in the region from 1880. Pp. 83-149 discuss the Nazi period. In 1933, 116 Jews lived in Castrop. Reports on 38 Jews who left between 1935-38 for other German towns in order to prepare for eventual emigration, and on the expulsion of ten Polish Jews in October 1938. Describes the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. Among 47 Jews who remained in Castrop in May 1939, 18 emigrated, while 23 were deported to concentration and extermination camps after December 1941. There were at least 36 Jews from Castrop who were murdered during the Holocaust.
