Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, 5 as follows: 10 15 A.D. 1927. 1. From and after the date when this Act comes Registers of into operation the following persons, that is to say dogs and cats in (1) any person who carries on the trade or business certain of buying and selling or otherwise dealing in places. (2) any person who conducts or manages a home (3) any person licensed to perform experiments on shall keep a register and enter therein the following particulars of every dog or cat which he acquires by purchase or otherwise or disposes of by sale or otherwise or houses or shelters or acquires or receives for the 20 purpose of experiments, as the case may be, viz., breed, markings, sex, date and purpose of acquisition, date and manner of disposal, price or other consideration paid or given or received, if any, and the name and address of the person from whom the same has been 25 acquired or to whom disposed. A.D. 1927. Registers 2. Every person keeping a register in pursuance of this Act shall at any time between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. permit such register to be inspected to be open by any person on payment of a fee not exceeding one shilling. for inspec tion. Any superintendent or inspector of police may, upon complaint being made to him by any person that premises for a dog or cat is lost of which such person is the owner or which he had custody at the time of the loss, issue instructions in writing to any police officer to enter 10 the premises of any person who keeps or ought to keep a register as aforesaid, and every such person shall, upon production by such police officer of such instruction in writing, show every dog and cat in his possession or control to such police officer and to the person upon 15 whose complaint such instruction has been issued and permit them to examine such dogs and cats. Right to enter premises and check registers, &c. Offences. Penalties. 4. Any police officer shall have a right to enter the premises of any person referred to in section one hereof at any time for the purpose of examining whether 20 there is or has been any contravention of or noncompliance with this Act, and if any person refuses to permit any police officer to enter any premises which he is entitled to enter under this Act or obstructs or impedes him in the execution of his right or duty under 25 this Act such person shall be guilty of an offence against this Act. 5.-(1) Any person (a) who acts in contravention of or fails to shall be guilty of an offence against this Act. (2) Any person guilty of an offence against this Act, shall, in respect of each offence, be liable (a) on summary conviction for a first offence to a fine not exceeding ten pounds; 30 35 (b) on summary conviction for a second or subsequent offence to a fine not exceeding twentyfive pounds or to imprisonment with or without 40 hard labour for a period not exceeding three A.D. 1927. months or to such a fine and such imprison ment. 6.-(1) This Act may be cited as the Dogs and Short title, 5 Cats Act, 1927. (2) This Act shall come into operation on the first day of January, nineteen hundred and twenty-eight. (3) This Act shall extend only to England and Wales. commencement and extent.
