21. Evil shall slay the wicked; and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

22. The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants; and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Afternoon.

PSALM CXVIII. 1, 5, 8, 9, 14—29.

GIVE thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

2. I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

3. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

4. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

5. The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.

6. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous; the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

7. The right hand of the LORD is exalted; the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

8. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.

9. The LORD hath chastened me sore; but he hath not given me over unto death.

10. Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:

11. This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall

enter.

12. I will praise thee; for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

13. The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

14. This is the LORD's doing it is marvellous in our eyes.

15. This is the day which the LORD hath made: we will rejoice and be glad in it.

16. Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.

17. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

18. God is the LORD, which hath showed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. 19. Thou art my God, and I will praise thee; thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

:

20. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good for his mercy endureth for ever.

SIXTEENTH DAY OF THE MONTH.

Morning.

PSALM XL. 1-13, 16.

I WAITED patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto

me, and heard my cry.

2. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

3. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

4. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

5. Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

6. Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required.

7. Then said I, Lo, I come in the volume of the book it is written of me,

8. I delight to do thy will, O my God; yea, thy law is within my heart.

9. I have preached righteousness in the great congregation lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou know

est.

10. I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy loving-kindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

11. Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy loving-kindness and thy truth continually pre

serve me.

12. For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.

13. Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.

14. Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.

PSALM CXXI.

WILL lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

3. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5. The LORD is thy keeper; the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8. The LORD shall preserve thy going-out and thy comingin from this time forth, and even for evermore.

SEVENTEENTH DAY OF THE MONTH.

S

Morning.

PSALM XLII.

As the hart panteth after the water-brooks, so panteth

my soul after thee, O God.

2. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

3. My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

4. When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me; for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holiday.

5. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

6. O my God, my soul is cast down within me therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

7. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts : all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

8. Yet the LORD will command his loving-kindness in the daytime; and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

9. I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10. As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

PSALM CXXII.

WAS glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

2. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. 3. Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
