PSALM CVII. 1—22, 32.

GIVE thanks unto the LORD, for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

2. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy,

3. And gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

4. They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way: they found no city to dwell in.

5. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

6. Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

7. And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

8. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

9. For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

10. Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

11. Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the Most High:

12. Therefore he brought down their heart with labor; they fell down, and there was none to help.

13. Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

14. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

15. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

16. For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

17. Fools, because of their transgression and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18. Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat, and they draw near unto the gates of death.

19. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

20. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

21. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

22. And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

23. Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

THE

TWELFTH DAY OF THE MONTH.

Morning.

PSALM XXVII.

THE LORD is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life: of whom Ishall I be afraid?

2. When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this Iwill I be confident.

4. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.

5. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me upon a rock.

6. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his taber

nacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

7. Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

8. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

9. Hide not thy face far from me: put not thy servant away in anger. Thou hast been my help: leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

11. Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

12. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies; for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

13. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

14. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Afternoon.

PSALM CXII.

PRAISE ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth

the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

2. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

3. Wealth and riches shall be in his house; and his righteousness endureth for ever.

4. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

5. A good man showeth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

6. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

7. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

8. His heart is established; he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

9. He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

10. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

THIRTEENTH DAY OF THE MONTH.

Morning.

PSALM XXX.

I WILL extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up,

and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

2. O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

3. O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

4. Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

5. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

6. And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

7. LORD, by thy favor thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled. 8. I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.

9. What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

10. Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.

11. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with glad

ness;

12. To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

[blocks in formation]

NOT

OT unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name, give glory, for thy mercy and for thy truth's sake.

2. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?

3. But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

4. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
