is come and who shall be able to stand.” How dreadful is the description! How great the terror of them, who conscious of their sins, call in vain upon the mountains to hide them! Here you see that a just recompense will be made to all,“ small and great,” according to their works: and if in the sinful course of life which you have followed, led by folly, and plunged into crime, you have neglected to prepare for this awful day, (which is certain as death, and must come to all ;) lose not one moment more! Look anxiously forward to the great event! and figure to your mind beforehand what must come to pass.

Hark! the trump of the archangel sounds, to awaken you to judgment! See! the heavens on fire dissolving, the elements of the world melting with fervent heat. The clouds bursting asunder, and rolling away. Jesus Christ in glory and majesty with thousands of his saints and angels. The books opened, and your accounts displayed. (Rev. xx. 12.) The “ kingdom prepared from the foundation of the world—joy unspeakable and full of glory,” for the righteous! (Matt. xxv. 34.) Behold, everlasting fire, the gulph of hell at your feet, yawning wide to receive the wicked, into the company of “the devil and his angels !" Yourself, overwhelmed with terror, calling in vain upon the mountains to overwhelm you.

And think, before it be too late, what then would you give, if it were in your power to redeem your lost time—that you had not, by a wicked life, forfeited a crown of glory, and those pleasures which are at God's right hand, and now about to be bestowed

upon his saints. “ Who can dwell with the devouring fire? who can dwell with everlasting burnings ?" Awake in time! fly to the mercy of God! and through his blessed Son Jesus CHRIST pray that you may find mercy in that day.

SEVENTEENTH EPISTLE.

AIMING AT HEAVEN, let us call on Jesus. Let us pray that Christ's resurrection may be ours; and that we may be more and more assured of it.' Let us say with the Apostle, “ O that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection.” Othat the Spirit of Holiness which quickened Christ fronı the dead, would by the same glorious power, beget Holiness, Faith and Love, and all other graces in my poor soul. O that Christ would by his resurrection, apply his active and passive obedience to me. O that he would be to me the Lord of the Living, and the Prince of Life: that he would overcome in me the death of sin; and that he would regenerate, quicken, renew, and fashion me by the power of godliness, like unto himself!

Let us praise God for Christ's resurrection; and for all the privileges flowing from it to our poor souls. Christ is risen—by his resurrection he hath justified, sanctified, quickened, and saved our souls: and therefore, “ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Surely, God requires a thousand Hallelujahs, even that we should bless him upon a thousand-stringed instrument. Here is fuel enough. The Lord hath kindled a great fire in every one of our hearts, to burn out all our lusts, and inflame our hearts with a love to Jesus Christ. Can we ever praise him too much for all

that he hath done for us? Are not all good Christians, called upon to rejoice with us, and to bless God for redeeming us!

heavens! for the Lord hath done it. Shout, ye lower parts of the earth! Break forth into singing, ye mountains, ye forests, and every tree therein ! For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.” This is the duty we shall do in heaven. And believe me, we are never more in heaven, while on earth, than when we are in this exercise of praising God, and blessing him for Jesus Christ.

EIGHTEENTH EPISTLE.

AIMING AT HEAVEN. I have shewn you, my Christian brethren, the very way to everlasting rest: and there is no other way. I have brought you through the difficulties and trials of this wicked world. I have shewn you the great folly of exposing yourselves to the principles of the Unitarians. I have recommended no new faith nor doctrine, but have earnestly urged you to come to newness of life. Embrace the Holy Scriptures, in their original and genuine sense, laid down in the four Gospels, which are the genuine WORD, coming from the lips of the Redeemer of the world, and written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. St. Paul's Epistles to the different churches corroborate the four Evangelists. His journey to Damascus seals St. Paul's faith in the most precious blood of Christ. The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, is given by his hands. We want no new faith — we want only the old faith reviving in newness of life, and with a lively energy bidding farewell to a lukewarm state. Criticism is an abomination to the Lord. Let neither lukewarmness nor criticism enter into the courts of the Lord's house; nor enter thou there, without seeking after a renewal of the Spirit to do away with the corruptions of the old

man.

In the Epistle to Timothy, St. Paul saith,—
