Begun and held at the Capitol, in the City of Washington, in the District of Columbia, on Tuesday, the fourteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and seventy-five, being the first session of the NINETY-FOURTH CONGRESS, held under the Constitution of the United States, and in the one hundred and ninety-ninth year of the Independence of the United States.

CREDENTIALS OF RESIDENT COMMISSIONERELECT AND DELEGATES-ELECT

The Clerk made the following statement:

The Clerk wishes to state that credentials are on file showing the election of the Honorable JAIME BENITEZ as Resident Commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the election of the Honorable WALTER E. FAUNTROY as Delegate from the District of Columbia, the election of the Honorable ANTONIO BORJA

The roll having been completed, the Clerk announced that the tellers had: reached an agreement; that the total number of votes cast were 432, of which number Mr. CARL B. ALBERT received 287; Mr. JOHN J. RHODES, 143.

Mr. CARL B. ALBERT of Oklahoma, having received 287 votes, being the largest number cast for any Memberelect, and a majority of the whole number of votes cast, was declared by the Clerk to have been duly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 94th Congress.

The Clerk announced the appointment of Mr. RHODES, Mr. O'NEILL, Mr. MICHEL, Mr. PHILLIP BURTON, and Mr. STEED to escort the Speaker to the Chair.
