vout or thoughtful remark on the passages read. As the night advanced she sunk into a dosing state, though perfectly conscious at times, and quite cheerful and happy. Early on Wednesday morning she had a slight return of her cough, which, however soon subsided, and as she sat up in bed she quietly said, "I think I am going now." She looked round with a look of earnest and fond affection on those who were with her, and then seemed to fall into a gentle sleep. Gradually her breathing became fainter, and so calmly did she pass away, that those who watched by her bedside were not conscious that her spirit had gone to be with Christ, until the chill of death made it apparent that she was absent from the body and present with the Lord.

Thus died Martha Dryland, going to Him whom she had loved, and with whom she longed to be, dying like,—

"Daylight in the west, Sinking like weary waves at eve to calm untroubled

rest."

Her end was peace; and now she sleeps in Jesus till the morning of the resurrection.

Her remains were interred in the beautiful

cemetery at Norwood, amidst the tears and sighs of many. As the funeral cortege entered the chapel at the cemetery, it was deeply affecting to see about forty young women, all attired in mourning, ranged on both sides of the building, and most of them weeping. These had all been at some time members of her Bible-class, and thus spontaneously showed their strong attachment to her. She lived in their affections, and lives still; for in many a heart the name of Martha Dryland is embalmed with gratitude and love.

THE END.

"He that chiefly owes himself unto himself is the substantial man."-Sir Thomas Browne.

"This extraordinary book has just reached us as we are closing our sheet. We have, nevertheless, run rapidly through its well-crammed pages, and for the sake of the young men to whom it is dedicated, we must characterize it. Well, it is a glowing, a glorious talk about all sorts of men, and all sorts of things: a cyclopædia of biographical facts. It must have required no small portion of lifetime, even of a laborious man, to prepare himself for such an undertaking. The amount of reading required has been all but boundless, such as may not be claimed for one man in a million. There are various works bearing the same name, some of them highly meritorious; but even the best is not for a moment to be compared with the volume before us. To every young man in England we would say, Haste and procure it, and then con it by incessant perusal till you have caught its spirit, and you will be a gainer as long as you live."-Christian Witness.
