SECTION I.

PRAYER.

8's & 7's.

TEACHER, Guide of young beginners,
Let a child approach to thee;

Thou didst come to ransom sinners,
Thou didst die to ransom me.
Into thy protection take me,

Full of goodness as thou art;
After thine own image make me,

Make me after thine own heart.

2 Exercise the Potter's power
Over this unshapen clay;
Call me in the morning hour,
Teach my simpleness the way:
With a tender awe inspire,

2.

1

That I never more may rove;
The faint spark of good desire
Blow into a flame of love.

8's & 7's.

SAVIOUR! while my heart is tender,

I would yield that heart to thee;

All my powers to thee surrender,
Thine, and only thine, to be.

2 Take me now, Lord Jesus! take me;
Let my youthful heart be thine:
Thy devoted servant make me ;
Fill my soul with love divine.

3 Send me, Lord, where thou wilt send me,
Only do thou guide my way;
May thy grace through life attend me,
Gladly then shall I obey.

4 Let me do thy will, or bear it;

I would know no will but thine :
Should'st thou take my life, or spare it,
I that life to thee resign.
5 May this solemn dedication
Never once forgotten lie;
Let it know no revocation,

Publish'd and confirm'd on high.

6 Thine I am, O Lord, for ever,
To thy service set apart :
Suffer me to leave thee never;
Seal thine image on my heart.

Holy Spirit, come!

COME,
Attend an infant's prayer;

Stoop down, and make my heart thy home,
And shed thy blessings there.

2 Thy light, thy love impart,
And let it ever be

A holy, humble, happy heart,'
A dwelling-place for thee.

3 Let thy rich grace increase,
Through all my rising days,

The fruits of righteousness and peace,
To thine eternal praise.

4-7's.

1ENTLE Jesus, meek and mild,

G

Look upon a little child;

Pity my simplicity,

Suffer me to come to thee.

2 Fain I would to thee be brought;
Gracious God, forbid it not;
Give me, O my God! a place
In the kingdom of thy grace.
3 Fain I would be as thou art;
Give me thy obedient heart:
Thou art pitiful and kind;
Let me have thy loving mind.
4 Meek and lowly may I be;
Thou art all humility:
Let me to my betters bow;
Subject to thy parents thou.
5 Let me above all fulfil

G

God my heavenly Father's will;
Never his good Spirit grieve,
Only to his glory live.

L. M.

TREAT God, and wilt thou condescend To be my Father and my Friend? I, a poor child, and thou so high, The Lord of earth, and air, and sky? 2 Art thou my Father?-Canst thou bear To hear my poor imperfect prayer? Or wilt thou listen to the praise That such a little one can raise?

3 Art thou my Father?-Let me be
A meek obedient child to thee;

And try in word, and deed, and thought,
To serve and please thee as I ought.

4 Art thou my Father?-I'll depend
Upon the care of such a Friend;
And only wish to do and be
Whatever seemeth good to thee.
5 Art thou my Father?-Then at last,
When all my days on earth are past,
Send down and take me in thy love,
To be thy better child above.

Y God, who mak'st the sun to know
His proper hour to rise;

And, to give light to all below,

Dost send him round the skies.

2 When, from the chambers of the east, His morning race begins,

He never tires, nor stops to rest,

But round the world he shines.
3 So, like the sun, would I fulfil
The business of the day;
Begin my work betimes, and still
March on my heavenly way.

4 Give me, O Lord, thy early grace;
Nor let my soul complain

7.

1

That the young morning of my days
Has all been spent in vain.

8's & 7's.

LORD, a little band and lowly,

We are come to worship thee:
Thou art great, and high, and holy;
Meek and humble let us be!

2 Fill our hearts with thoughts of Jesus, And of heaven, where he is gone;

And let nothing ever please us
He would grieve to look upon.
