Clause 1.

Amendment made, in page 2, line 3, by leaving out the word“ and,” and inserting the word “or”—(Mr. Atkinson), -instead thereof.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 10, to leave out the word “ strong ”-(Dr. Vernon Davies).Question, “ That the word “strong’ stand part of the Clause, - put, and negatived.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 16, after the word “of,” to insert the words "mental disturbance or of "--(Mr. Atkinson). —Question, “ That those words be there inserted,” – put, and negatived.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 16, to leave out the word “or.”– Question, "That the word 'or stand part of the Clause,”—put, and agreed to.

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 18, after the word " disease,” to insert the word “or”—(Mr. Robert Morrison). --Question proposed, “ That the word or' be there inserted."

Clause 2.

Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 23, to leave out paragraph (1)-(Mr. Ammon).- Question proposed, " That the words proposed to be left out stand part of the Clause."

Amendments made, in page 2, line 26, by leaving out paragraph (2), and inserting the words :

“ (2) In paragraph (a) of sub-section (2) for the

words' way of supervision or guardianship ’
there shall be substituted the words ' being
placed under supervision or guardianship or

sent to an institution,'”-instead thereof;
and in page 2, line 32, after the word “Act,” by inserting
the words “ by being placed under supervision or guardian-
ship or sent to an institution ”-(Mr. Neville Chamberlain).

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 3.

Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 36, after the word “ is," to insert the word “ permanently ”-(Mr. Robert Morrison). - Question proposed,

" That the word 'permanently' be there inserted.”

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.

Clause agreed to.

Clause 4.

Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 37, at the begin-
ning, to insert the words :-

( ) Section eleven, sub-section (2), of the principal
Act shall be amended by the substitution of the word
'three' for 'five' throughout the said sub-section ”-
(Mr. Atkinson).

Another Amendment proposed, in page 2, line 37, at the beginning, to insert the words :

“ ( ) The Board, before considering the special reports and certificates in pursuance of section eleven, sub-section (2), of the principal Act, shall ascertain the defective has been informed of his right to be

examined by a medical practitioner of his own choice"

-(Mr. Atkinson). Question proposed, “ That those words be there inserted.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.

Amendment made, in page 2, line 38, after the word “ institution,” by inserting the words “ or has been placed in an institution by a parent or guardian”-(Sir Kingsley Wood).

Another Amendment proposed, in page 3, line 1, after the word “ examination,” to insert the word “separately ”

- (Dr. Vernon Davies). Question, " That the word ' separately' be there inserted,”—put, and negatived.

Another Amendment made, in page 3, line 6, at the end, by adding the words :

“ (2) Any expenses incurred by a local authority in connection with any such arrangement as aforesaid shall be defrayed in like manner as the expenses of a local authority under section thirty-three of the prin

cipal Act”-(Sir Kingsley Wood). Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 5.

Amendments made, in page 3, line 15, at the end, by inserting the word “occupation”; and in line 21, after the word “ training,” by inserting the words “or occupation -(Mr. Robert Morrison).

Another Amendment made, in page 3, line 23, at the end, by inserting the words: (ii) in proviso (i) thereto there were substituted for

the words 'paragraphs (6) (c), (d), and (9),' the

words. paragraphs (0), (c), (cc), (d), and (9);
(iii) at the end thereof there were added the following

proviso :
(v) a local authority shall be under no obligation

to provide training in the case of any
defective under supervision if they satisfy
