By direction of the Chairman Mr. TYLDESLEY-JONES, K.C., addressed the Committee on a matter raised in the Report of the Ministry of Health on the Preamble of the Bill, namely, the expediency of allowing Metropolitan Boroughs generally to promote Bills for obtaining special provisions for the proper government of their Borough or whether these provisions should be obtained by Bills promoted by the London County Council in General Power Bills; and called evidence.

Sir JOHN HUNT and the Reverend WILLIAM EVANS sworn and examined. Room cleared. The Committee deliberated.

The Chairman stated that the Committee had allowed the Clause subject to the following condition, namely, "that if and when the County Council adopt powers similar to those embodied in the Clause, such powers shall cease as regards the Borough of Hackney.”
