Another New Clause ("Amendment of Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1908 ") brought up, and read the first time as follows: "Section one of the Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1908, shall have effect as if the following words were added to sub-section (6) thereof and any shift of workmen may, notwithstanding the provisions of this section, commence their period of work on Saturday after twentythree hours have elapsed since the commencement of their last period of work' "—(Mr. Austin Hopkinson). Motion made, and Question put, "That the Clause be read a second time."-The Committee divided: Another New Clause ("Provision of pensions for aged miners") brought up, and read the first time as follows: "When in accordance with the directions of the Board of Trade, as provided in the preceding section, the appropriation of the whole of the proceeds of the royalties welfare levy paid to the welfare fund towards the provision of washing and drying accommodation ceases, it shall be the duty of the miners' welfare committee to establish out of the proceeds of the royalties welfare levy a scheme for the provision of weekly pensions for persons who have been regularly employed in the mining industry and have reached the age of sixty years "-(Mr. Charles Edwards).
