Provided also that where in any case the execution of works under this section produces an increase in the value of the land comprised in the area improved, which exceeds the sum recovered or recoverable from the owners and occupiers of such land under the provisions of this section, the sum represented by such difference shall be recovered from such owners and occupiers in the like manner and subject to the same provisions as are at present laid down in this section for the recovery of expenses incurred in executing such works. For the purpose of ascertaining the increase in the value of the land comprised in the area improved in accordance with this proviso, regard shall be had to the benefit accruing to the owners and occupiers concerned, over a period extending from the date of the completion of the works undertaken under the provision of this section to a date thirty years later"-(Mr. Buxton).

"Where under any scheme made in pursuance of this Act or any other Drainage Act small sums are payable by any persons by way of acreage or other rate the Authority by whom the rate is levied may make arrangements as to the commutation of the said rate -(Brigadier-General Brooke).

Clause 1.

Amendment made, in page 1, line 7, by leaving out all the words from the word "person "to the word "prior," in line 10, and by inserting the words "on whom the powers of a tenant for life are conferred by paragraph (ix) of sub-section (1) of section twenty of that Act from conveying or creating a legal estate subject to a "-(Mr. Solicitor-General),-instead thereof.

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 2.

Amendments made, in page 2, line 24, by leaving out the words "if he is a tenant from year to year ; in page 2, line 29, after the word "holding," by inserting the words " given by the persons so severally entitled "; and in page 2, lines 30 and 31, by leaving out the words "expiration of the then current year of tenancy," and by inserting the words "same time as the original notice". (Mr. Solicitor-General),—instead thereof.

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clause 3.

Amendment made, in page 2, line 42, after the word "Chancellor," by inserting the words " and in relation to the property of a bankrupt and property subject to a deed of arrangement, includes the trustee in bankruptcy and the trustee under the deed respectively "; in page 3, line 5, after the word "its," by inserting the word "net" and in page 3, line 5, after the word "income," by inserting the words "after payment of outgoings "-(Sir William Bull).
