Macroeconomic Policy Formation in Africa - Country Cases: Country Cases

The African Development Perspectives Yearbook fills a gap in the literature on Africa's development problems. Experts from African institution and regional organizations, from international organisation, from universities and research institutions, from governmental and non-governmental organisations, and from the donor community analyse issues and report on problems and solutions, on new policies, programmes, projections and visions, and on new and ongoing projects in and for Africa. Various levels of action that are relevant for Africa's development are considered in this Yearbook - the international community in its relations to Africa, interregional and national issues of Africa's development, but also local projects and local development achievements are documented. Africa's development perspectives are therefore analysed and commented from the global to the local space, by presenting analytical surveys and policy statements, declarations and programmes of international regional, national, and voluntary organisations and associations. It is also the purpose of the African Development Perspective Yearbook to establish a news-and-information network, and a forum for international communication on Africa's development perspectives. Volume 17 of the African Development Perspectives Yearbook with she title "Macroeconomic Policy Formation in Africa - Country Cases" considers three major issues: First, the volume considers macroeconomic policies in post-conflict countries, especially by reviewing the growth, social progress and public finance strategies. Also the reconstruction of macroeconomic policy institutions is considered. Sudan and South Sudan are the country cases included. Second, the volume contains analyses of macroeconomic policy formation in West Africa. Country case studies are presented on Nigeria and Senegal; also the feasibility of a second West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ) in ECOWAS beside of the West African Communauté Financière Africaine (CFA) Franc Zone is analyzed. Third, the volume has a large section with Book Reviews and Book Notes, covering studies on macroeconomic policy formation and institutions by researchers and experts from universities, governments, donors and international organizations. Volume 17 is complementary to Volume 16 with the title "Macroeconomic Policy Formation in Africa - General Issues". Volume 16 presented new macroeconomic policy frameworks for Africa and new macroeconomic strategies for the "Arab Spring" countries in Nord Africa. The new Volume 17 and the prior Volume 16 provide a systematic review and an evidence-based evaluation of macroeconomic policy formation processes in Africa. Book jacket.
