The English Years

Admirers from all over the world now visit Hirschfelder at his home in Southend-on-Sea to pay homage to the great man. He is a literary icon, his book an acknowledged masterpiece. But fame has come at a price. He fled Vienna shortly before the outbreak of war, and lived in London with the family of a judge. In 1940 he was classified as an 'undesirable alien' and sent to a camp with other internees on the Isle of Man. The friends he made there would change his life forever. The English Years introduces to English readers the work of an outstanding European novelist, writing about England with a narrative force seldom seen in any language since the war.
