Recounts the stories of 30 Jews who lived in Klein-Krotzenburg and eight Jews who lived in Hainstadt (both of them small towns in Hessen) in 1933. Lists their names, addresses, and professions, and describes their community life and their relations with non-Jewish citizens. Deals with the political changes which occurred after 1933 and how they affected the daily life of the Jews, and with the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. In December 1939 the last Jew left Klein-Krotzenburg. 14 had managed to emigrate, two died a natural death, and 14 were deported and perished on their way to, or in, a concentration camp. In Hainstadt, four managed to emigrate and four perished in the Holocaust.
