The Artist Louise Bourgeois

Harry N. Abrams, 01.03.2003 - 80 Seiten
An inspiring role model for young teens, especially girls The only book available for young people on one of the most important--and controversial--artists of the 20th century, Runaway Girl provides a distinctive, intimate look at the life and work of sculptor Louise Bourgeois (b. 1911). Known for her graphic, sometimes disturbing, yet always personal artworks, Bourgeois broke down barriers for women in the male-dominated art world as she struggled to make sense of her own troubled past. Family photographs and reproductions of Bourgeois's artwork--from Deconstruction of the Father to Maman--are interspersed with exclusive interviews, selections from the artist's journals, and clear, insightful text. Runaway Girl offers a dynamic, thought-provoking look at the life and work of an artist ahead of her time. Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jordan have collaborated on best-selling, critically acclaimed books about Chuck Close, Frank O. Gehry, and Vincent van Gogh. Jan Greenberg is also the author of Abrams' Heart to Heart: New Poems Inspired by Twentieth-Century American Art, a Michael L. Printz Honor Book. She lives in St. Louis. Sandra Jordan, an editor and photographer as well as a writer, lives in New York City. Author appearances

Review: Runaway Girl: The Artist Louise Bourgeois (Bccb Blue Ribbon Nonfiction Book Award (Awards))

Nutzerbericht - Goodreads

A beautiful introduction to a complex artist. Louise died in May 2010. She was 99 years old. This interview was conducted when Louise was 92 and is a fresh look at a life examined though her art. The book is filled with her simplistic but explicit works.

Über den Autor (2003)

Greenberg's books have received many honors: ALA Notable, School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, Booklist Editor's Choice, IRA Teacher's Choice, Bulletin Blue Ribbon Book, and Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor Book.

Sandra Jordan is an educator engaged in the creation and management of Montessori schools for children, and is currently executive director of the Beverly Hills Academy in Beverly Hills, Michigan. In her role, she has emphasized and perfected her need to communicate accurately and passionately to parents yet maintain the simplicity needed to talk directly and effectively with children. In the medical field, the enemy of sharing information with patients lies in the complexity and volume of medical information available from ever-growing sources. Every page of information shared in this book was first shared with Ms. Jordan. Her insight, common sense, and desire for simplicity in the explanations and vocabulary we selected played a vital role. Ms. Jordan's goal is to convey information that is appropriate, understandable, and meaningful.
